Welcome

I’m Amy Jenkins, and Mudlore Ceramics is my little corner of the world.

I make pottery by hand in Portland, Oregon, slowly and with care. My work is meant to be lived with, pieces that earn their place through daily use and feel familiar almost right away. If you’re drawn to objects that feel warm, thoughtful, and quietly playful, you’re in the right place.

The Mudlore Story

The name Mudlore brings together material and meaning.

“Mud” is clay in its most elemental state, the raw earth at the heart of this work. It speaks to transformation, from ground to hand to object, and to the many paths an object, and a life, can take.

“Lore” comes from the Old English lār, meaning knowledge, learning, and stories passed down over time. Together, Mudlore reflects the belief that handmade objects carry quiet wisdom, shaped by process, use, and care.

About My Work

My work consists of ceramics made slowly by hand, with an emphasis on touch, balance, and quiet restraint. I work within a cohesive palette inspired by the Oregon landscape, smoky blues, deep greens, soft whites, and natural clay bodies, allowing subtle variation rather than bold statements to carry the work.

The pieces are refined but not fussy, playful without being precious, and meant to live comfortably in real homes. They’re designed to be held, used, and returned to, again and again.

In the Studio

Everything I make is shaped slowly, with attention to form, surface, and how a piece feels in the hand. Surfaces are finished and intentional, not rough or abrasive, and small variations are part of the story.

Studio life matters too. Most days include good coffee, long stretches of focus, and the steady presence of my studio dog, Cooper. He keeps me company, offers moral support, and occasionally shares his thoughts from his favorite corner, known on Instagram as Cooper’s Corner.

At Home With Mudlore

Mudlore pieces are made for real life. They’re meant to sit on kitchen counters, hold morning coffee, and gather small, ordinary memories over time.

I hope these pieces feel like home, or help create it.
